Seine is something else. What makes this trio particularly special are frontman Ivan Ščapec’s androgynous voice and lucid soft-spoken lyrics. On their third album Naizust, the Croatian trio introduced more minimalist arrangements and mysterious Massive Attack-like atmospheres. The traditional singer-songwriter format is a thing of the past. Digital instrumentals, downtempo beats, brooding synths, odd bass lines, hypnotic feedback and occasional guitar embellishments take centre stage as the band’s innovative transgenre approach opens a multitude of new possibilities.
