MENT Ljubljana is
a three-day festival of music discovery from all over Europe and further abroad. The sixth edition, which took place from 5th to 7th February 2020, was sold out on Thursday and Friday, and at full capacity on the opening night as well. During the festival, 80 acts from 26 countries performed at 13 different venues. The international conference, which focuses on the music industry and creativity, was attended by 650 delegates from 37 countries. Across three days, the festival was attended by more than 5,800 visitors.
Reviews by influential music media with an international readership write of a more than successful edition, of MENT as an influential festival that surpasses expectations and shifts the focus – discovering different sounds and opening up unfamiliar music scenes through its programme. Of MENT as an extremely well organised, atypical showcase festival with a heart.
“MENT is an energetic, idiosyncratic, and incredibly illuminating experience…” wrote Clash Magazine, while Under the Radar Magazine described MENT as borderless, free and endlessly innovative. At the same time, the author was surprised to realise how isolated and self-sufficient the British music scene is, and how much it can learn from the Ljubljana festival.
See you at the seventh MENT!

BEST INDOOR & BEST SMALL FESTIVAL 2017 according to the European Festival Awards.
The festival focuses on local, regional and Eastern European scene, yet hosts bands from all over Europe. The same goes for music professionals. The conference is heavily attended by regional professionals – especially from Croatia, Serbia and Macedonia, as well as from nearby countries: Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Italy, Germany.
“Festivals are often keen to trumpet a range of zeitgeisty credentials. But Ljubljana’s MENT is set up by a bunch of Slovenian music heads who don’t look to theorise too much whilst reaping the maximum amount of fun and friendship. We are here to enjoy ‘contemporary music, happening in real time.”
Richard Foster, THE QUIETUS
“Its unpretentious, friendly and connected vibes create a true sense of collaboration, a challenge to Anglo-American cultural isolationism and something bigger than political posturing. MENT is the ‘European project’ in its truest sense – borderless, free and endlessly innovative. In this case, it is about music, but the ideals are so much more.”
James Thornhill, UNDER THE RADAR
“An energetic, idiosyncratic, and incredibly illuminating experience...”
Lauren McDermott, CLASH
“Sometimes it’s crazy to sit in car and drive six hours to Ljubljana just to hear something under the radar. And sometimes that’s exactly what you need! Because the first time I attended MENT, the largest showcase festival in the region, I began looking at what I actually expect from a festival in a different way.”
Goran Ojkić, OBLAKODER
“MENT Festival has gained a reputation of one of Europe’s most significant showcases – unconcerned by hype and far more likely to get it right by showcasing the weirdest, most thrilling acts.”
Fergal Kinney, LOUD AND QUIET MAGAZINE
“After three consecutive years of attending MENT Ljubljana, I can immediately conclude that it is still the most exciting club festival around and undoubtedly curates a contemporary and thereby avant-garde programme, which provides insight into which scenes are teeming with quality over just three days.”
Zoran Stajčić, RAVNODODNA
“This is my best and also dearest small festival, as it offers a handful of club bands I enjoy each year. What was this year’s MENT like?! Even better than expected.”
Siniša Miklaužić, MUZIKA.HR
“The MENT Festival goes stubbornly and deeply into niches, and always remains exciting and of high quality. That provides real moments of surprise every year, with bands you stumble onto accidentally, but then don't want to leave anymore.”
Hannes Tschürtz, Ink Music
As a platform, MENT supports and promotes Slovenian acts and authors abroad, doing so as part of INES (the Innovation Network of Showcase Festivals), which includes 18 European festivals, as well as through cooperation with other events and individual venues, for example Tallinn Music Week (Estonia), ESNS (Netherlands) and Pin Conference (North Macedonia). Within the framework of the MENT platform activities, 41 Slovenian acts have performed a total of 141 times at various foreign festivals and venues in 16 different countries since 2014
In cooperation with SIGIC (the Slovenian Music Information Centre), MENT has been organising lectures and workshops about the music business, titled fundaMENT, since 2014. They feature local and foreign music professionals sharing knowledge with the audience. So far, 20 lectures and workshops have been held as part of the fundaMENT series.
