MENT Ljubljana is
a three-day showcase festival of artists from all of Europe and beyond, during which around 70 acts perform at different venues in Ljubljana. The international conference focuses on the music industry and creativity.
The fifth MENT, which took place in Ljubljana from 30th January to 1st February hosted 75 acts from 27 countries having performed in packed venues. In three days, the total number of all visitors amounted to more than 5,000, including 583 registered music professionals from 37 countries.
BEST INDOOR & BEST SMALL FESTIVAL 2017 as chosen by the European Festival Awards.
Our focus are the regional and Eastern European scenes, though we host acts from all over Europe, and the same goes for professionals. In previous years, our guests have included representatives of festivals (EXIT, INmusic, Glastonbury, Sziget, Eurosonic, Pohoda, Tallinn Music Week, Iceland Airwaves, United Islands of Prague, Les Trans Musicales, Rock 4 People, Waves Vienna, Le Guess Who?, Reeperbahn, Haldern Pop, Taksirat, Super Uho, Europavox, Metronome, Atlas Weekend…), record labels (Sire Records, Warner Music Group, One Little Indian, PIAS, Glitterbeat, Ghostly International, Beggars Group, Hyperboloid, popup-records…), booking agencies (Toutpartout, Belmont, ATC Live, Pitch & Smith, Charmenko, Ink Music, More Zvukov, Paper and Iron, Scorched Asia, Mentha & Partners…), concert promoters (Parallel Lines, Go Ahead, Password Production, Yugofuturism, Los Angeles Agency, WORM…) management companies (Ink Music, 3s Management, Chimes…), music media (KEXP, Under the Radar, The Quietus, Clash, BBC, Intro, Louder Than War, The 405, Drowned in Sound, IQ Magazine, beehype, GIITTV, Noisey Austria, Muzika.hr…), sync agencies (Thag’s Agent, Lusitanian, Eastaste, musicsupervising.com…), PR agencies (Factory 92, Global Publicity, popup-reocrds…), networks (IMPALA, Liveurope, INES, ETEP, RUNDA, Keychange…), distribution services (The Orchard, Phonofile, Believe Digital…) and the likes of Spotify, Google, Music Ally, music export offices and other music related outfits. There’s a significant attendance by professionals from the ex-Yu region – mostly from Croatia, Serbia and Macedonia and the neighbouring countries (Austria, Hungary, Italy).
“Much like the country itself, MENT is special – it is indeed a festival with real heart and an inquisitive mind.”
Vic Galloway, Clash
What we’ve learned from the 2019 edition of MENT is pretty much anything goes, which is not something to be taken for granted, particularly in an age where playlists generated by algorithms dominate. Long may it last!”
Dom Gourlay, Gigwise
“MENT was my third showcase this year. And to be honest, it was the best one. I felt the organizers didn’t do it just as a part of their business, but because they’re truly interested in presenting new music and new names. This was the main point of the festival, and that’s what we (musicians) really need.”
Natallia Kunitskaya / Mustelide (artist)
“MENT Ljubljana was really a breath of fresh air. You can immediately see when the right people are doing things for the right reasons and also have the skills, knowledge and good taste in doing so. The quality of the music was super impressive!”
Helen Sildna, Tallinn Music Week
“It’s the best rock-orientated showcase event I’ve been to, and you score highly for the quality and diversity (so important!) of the showcases and the vibrant quality of the conferences.”
Nick Hobbs, Charmenko
“If I organized a music festival, I’d probably do a comprehensive copy-paste of MENT.”
Mariusz Herma, beehype
As a platform, MENT supports and promotes Slovenian acts and authors abroad, doing so as part of INES (the Innovation Network of Showcase Festivals), which includes 18 European festivals, as well as through cooperation with other events and individual venues, for example Tallinn Music Week (Estonia), ESNS (Netherlands) and Pin Conference (North Macedonia). Within the framework of the MENT platform activities, 34 Slovenian acts have performed a total of 122 times at various foreign festivals and venues in 14 different countries since 2014
In cooperation with SIGIC (the Slovenian Music Information Centre), MENT has been organising lectures and workshops about the music business, titled fundaMENT, since 2014. They feature local and foreign music professionals sharing knowledge with the audience. So far, 20 lectures and workshops have been held as part of the fundaMENT series.
